A lifetime of learning, bodywork, and helping people relax.
I started training as a professional massage therapist in 1996, originally as a way to support myself while pursuing my first stab at being an artist, painting. At the time, being a massage therapist was a way to earn income while pursuing ones passion, such as art, acting or some other sort of creative career. I was especially interested in working with athletes and helping people improve their workouts, performance, and connection with their bodies.
Three decades later, massage therapy has changed dramatically. What began as a small independent profession has grown into a huge spa and wellness industry, and I've continued to try and grow right along with it. Throughout my career, I've pursued extensive continuing education—not simply because licensing requires it, but because I've always wanted to understand more about the human body and find better ways to help the individual person in front of me.
Over the years, my training has expanded into many forms of bodywork, including Reflexology, CranioSacral Therapy, Structural Integration (sometimes called Rolfing®, Thai massage, Lomi Lomi, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage. I have also trained as a hypnotist, which gave me another fascinating perspective on the relationship between the mind, relaxation, and the body.
When you book with me, you have my undivided attention. I don't text while I work.
I listen carefully to what you're experiencing and what you want from your session, and I use my experience to create the best, most personalized bodywork session I can.
Sometimes the best thing a practitioner can do is recognize when they aren't the right match. If I believe another therapist or approach would serve you better, I'll tell you and help point you in the right direction.
My education has never really stopped.
I also complete continuing education regularly to maintain my professional credentials and continue developing my skills.
Some of my major professional training includes:
I hold a bachelor's degree in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design, and I am a Certified Hypnotist through the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI) in Encino, California.
My background in art, bodywork, massage, and hypnosis may seem like very different paths, but to me they share something important: curiosity about people, creativity, and a desire to understand how we experience the world through our bodies and minds.
"I’ve been a client of Laura’s mobile massage for over 10 years and have hired her many times for family and couples’ trips. She consistently delivers one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Laura can work with several clients back-to-back without sacrificing quality. Whether we’re looking for deep-tissue therapeutic work or a relaxing Swedish massage, she always delivers. I highly recommend Laura for your next visit to Maui."
